What PanDigital should have told folks about the firmware update to its PanDigital Novel, a 7 inch Android media tablet is…

• That Windows 7 will flip out about the security of downloading the .exe file that must be run to update the tablet from ANDROID Tablet Firmware Update. Windows’s paranoid security default causes you to have to find and then run the updater .exe file from the Downloads folder.
  
• That Windows 7 will probably need the DotNet 4 updates installed for the tablet’s updater program to work without an error http://www.microsoft.com/download/en/details.aspx?id=17851&WT.mc_id=MSCOM_EN_US_DLC_DETAILS_121LSUS007996. Unless this update from Microsoft was previously installed for another programming need (and all consumers program right?).

The firmware update is essential because it updates the Android Operating System as well as the device’s menu. Though the device was never high powered to begin with (500’ish MHz ARM CPU, 128MB RAM) I noticed the response time of the device improved too!
Otherwise, the tablet is a usable web browsing, emailing, facebook’ing and media consuming device.
